Anne & Melvyn Hardy
The love affair with competion started in 1997 with a very man-shy German Shepherd bitch, the only males
she could tolerate were Mel and my two boys Ian and Robin. In an effort to help her I started working
her, competing in Obedience. Then we were offered a young bitch by the very famous Champion Sparticist of
Hendrawen and showing took over from obedience.
As founder members of a training club first held at Worksop Rugby Club and later moving up
to Langold Lake I became totally captivated by the Italian Spinone, Mel wasn't convinced and after all
these years and five Spinones later I don't think he will ever be convinced that there is a brain in
there somewhere.
In 1998 I was approached to organise a breed show for The Glen of Imaal Terrier and never having
seen one went to Rosemary Whinn-Sladden's Elmedir Kennel at Thorne and met the incomparable "Danny",
Blue Warrior at Elmedir fell in love and acquired "Buns". This time Mel didn't take any convincing
because he has always loved terriers and he certainly fell for the Glens.
Judging all over the world has given us the unique chance to travel as far afield as Pakistan,
Russia, Ukraine and Latvia where I was privileged to judge the Glens in Riga.
Dog showing is about heartbreak and hope and you definitely need the ability to bounce back from
adversity. Our older homebred GSD male "Rocky on one CC and two Reserves had to have his tail
amputated and was retired from showing but the youger male "Declan" gained his Champions title in 2007
We are very excited about showing "Duncan" Amhard Damson Sauce in 2008. He finished 2007
by becoming the top winning puppy, and competing in his first Junior class he won and went on to go Best
of Breed at Driffield Championship Show. |
